The suspect, identified as Adama Inuwa, who reportedly claimed to be from Ogoja Local Government Area, was arrested during an NDLEA raid conducted on October 4, 2026.

The operation led to the recovery of 181 bags of suspected cannabis sativa weighing approximately 1,100 kilogrammes, alongside 17.15 kilogrammes of cannabis seeds.

The massive seizure has drawn attention to the scale of suspected illicit drug activities in the area, as the agency intensifies efforts to disrupt the supply and distribution of prohibited substances across Cross River State.

According to the NDLEA, the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue to establish the possible network behind the seized substances. She is expected to be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations and the completion of relevant legal procedures.

The agency described the operation as part of its sustained efforts to curb drug trafficking and reduce the circulation of illicit substances, particularly among young people and other vulnerable members of society.

The seizure also underscores the wider public health and security concerns associated with the distribution and use of illicit drugs, with the NDLEA stressing the need for stronger cooperation between law enforcement agencies and local communities.

Residents, traditional rulers, parents, youth organisations and other stakeholders have been urged to support the fight against drug trafficking by providing credible information that could help identify and dismantle networks involved in the illicit drug trade.

The agency maintained that effective enforcement must be complemented by public enlightenment, preventive education and community participation to reduce substance abuse and protect vulnerable populations.

The statement was signed by ASN1 Sebastian Lebo, Media and Advocacy Officer of the NDLEA Cross River State Command, on behalf of the State Commander.

The command reiterated its commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking and use, pledging to sustain operations aimed at protecting communities and safeguarding the future of residents across Cross River State.
