The lawmakers visited the movement’s national office, where they held a strategic meeting with Hon. Innocent Egede, National Director of Strategic Deployment and Implementation.

The delegation was led by the Majority Leader of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Francis Asuquo, who reaffirmed the lawmakers’ support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu but expressed reservations about extending the same commitment to other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the state, including Governor Bassey Edet Otu.

Their position was reportedly connected to dissatisfaction with the party’s ticket arrangements for the forthcoming elections, which have allegedly left some of the lawmakers uncertain about their chances of securing tickets to seek re-election. While some are seeking a third term, others are pursuing a second term in the Assembly.

The lawmakers are said to believe that they should be given the opportunity to return to the legislature, particularly as Governor Otu is seeking a second term in office.

Responding to their concerns, Egede appealed to the legislators to reconsider their position and support all APC candidates, stressing that internal disagreements should not be allowed to weaken the party’s electoral prospects in Cross River State.

He emphasised the need for unity, strategic coordination and collective political action, warning that divisions among party stakeholders could undermine the APC’s performance at the polls and affect the President’s electoral fortunes in the state.

Egede reiterated the movement’s ambition to mobilise 600,000 votes for President Tinubu in Cross River State, noting that achieving the target would require a coordinated political structure and the active participation of stakeholders across all constituencies.

Following the meeting, Egede led the lawmakers to meet with Hon. Bala Ahmed, Director General of Relax Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria, who also urged the legislators to reconsider their stance and align with the broader electoral objectives of the APC.

In a move aimed at addressing their concerns and strengthening grassroots mobilisation, Bala Ahmed pledged to integrate the lawmakers into the operational structure of the movement’s national organisation, subject to the directive of Barr. Seyi Tinubu, the movement’s chief founder.

The engagement is expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to reconcile aggrieved party members, improve cooperation among political stakeholders and strengthen the APC’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the forthcoming elections.

Among the lawmakers who attended the meeting were Rt. Hon. Dr. Davies Etta, Deputy Leader representing Abi State Constituency; Hon. Egbe Abeng Egbe of Obubra II; Hon. Ovat Dickson Agbor of Obubra I; Hon. Ashakia Puis Ashaks of Obanliku; Hon. Victor Nsa of Calabar South II; Hon. Bassey Effiong Bassey of Akpabuyo; Hon. Eyo Bassey of Bakassi; Hon. Okon Nyong Ewona of Akamkpa I; Hon. Mercy Akpama of Yakurr II; and Hon. Kingsley Ntui of Etung.

The meeting highlights the challenges of managing internal party disagreements as political stakeholders position themselves for the forthcoming elections. Whether the engagement will translate into a unified campaign effort will depend on how the concerns of the aggrieved lawmakers are addressed and the extent to which the party c

an secure their cooperation.
