Anambra Police Recover Stolen Highlander Traced To Calabar

An alleged car theft that happened in Anambra has been cracked hundreds of kilometres away in Cross River State.

Operatives of the Central Police Station (CPS), Onitsha, have recovered a Toyota Highlander Jeep reported stolen earlier this month and tracked the vehicle to Calabar, where it was found.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed this in a statement from Awka on Thursday, the recovery was carried out on 16th October, 2026.

Ikenga said the breakthrough followed credible intelligence on the movement of the vehicle, which has registration number ENU 387 BB and was allegedly stolen on 9th October, 2026.

In the course of the operation in Calabar, one male suspect, Muonago Chibuze, was arrested in connection with the stolen SUV.

He explained that the success of the operation shows how intelligence-led policing and inter-state synergy are helping the Command to track stolen property even when taken outside Anambra.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, has ordered that the recovered Highlander be handed over to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, for discreet investigation.

The CP said the RRS will establish how the vehicle was stolen, the extent of the suspect's involvement, and whether there are other accomplices.

He reiterated the Command's commitment to protect lives and property and to pursue every stolen item to wherever it is taken, while urging the public to continue to volunteer timely and credible information on suspicious movements and criminal activities through the nearest police station and official channels.
