After more than ten years without electricity, Bakassi Local Government Area is finally on the path to power restoration as the Cross River State Electrification Agency begins a full assessment of energy facilities in the LGA.
The assessment tour was led by AIG Chief Enene Okon (Rtd.), a respected leader from Bakassi Mainland. The team visited communities across all 10 wards of the LGA to inspect existing transformers and determine what repairs and replacements are needed to bring electricity back.
During the exercise, engineers examined transformers in different communities. Some were found to require repairs, while others will need to be replaced entirely. The inspection gave a clear picture of the current state of power infrastructure and the work required in each area.
Speaking during the tour, AIG Chief Enene Okon (Rtd.) praised Governor Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu for the administration’s commitment to Bakassi’s development. He pointed to ongoing efforts to restore electricity, maintain peace and security, and drive the Bakassi Deep Seaport project as key initiatives targeted at the LGA.
He described the power assessment as a major step toward solving a long-standing problem, noting that the progress is coming despite resistance and negative voices in some parts of the community.
The exercise sparked excitement among residents. Many young people joined the team as it moved from community to community. Locals expressed optimism and renewed trust in the Governor Otu-led administration, hoping the assessment will lead to actual restoration of power.
AIG Okon also urged residents to remain loyal to the APC and work together to ensure a clean sweep “APC 5/5” for the party in Bakassi.
For communities that have lived in darkness for years, the inspection has renewed hope that the long wait for electricity is finally nearing an end.
