Cross River Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Dr. Eka Williams Abang, Dies Suddenly

The Cross River State Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Dr. Eka Williams Abang, has died.

His death was announced on Sunday morning by his brother, Nkang Williams, who said the Commissioner passed away unexpectedly.

In an emotional tribute, Nkang described the loss as devastating and difficult to accept.

Can this be a dream? Somebody, please wake me up with better news,” he wrote. “How can someone who was here with us suddenly become a memory? My heart is broken.”

He recalled his brother as more than family  a companion, a voice of reason, and a source of strength.

There are memories that death cannot erase, conversations that time cannot destroy, and moments together that will remain permanently engraved upon our hearts,” Nkang said. “Your name will not simply be remembered because you died; you will be remembered because you lived and your life mattered.”

News of the Commissioner’s passing has drawn widespread reactions across the state.

Michael Ogar Gabriel Jr., Executive Media Assistant to the Honourable Minister of State for Industry, Sen. John Owan-Enoh, described Dr. Abang as a dedicated public servant.

Ikom has lost a dedicated public servant and a good man. Your life of service, humility and the impact you made will remain in the hearts of those you touched,” he said. “May God grant your family, colleagues and loved ones the strength to bear this painful loss, and may He grant your soul eternal rest.”

Pius Kejuo Osang, a former Councillor for Abo Ward in Boki Local Government Area, also expressed shock.

I don’t understand. I was with him on Tuesday. I slept in his hotel,” he said.

Dr. Abang served as Cross River State’s Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy until his death. He was known for his commitment to public service and his efforts to advance the state’s energy sector.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced by the family.

May his soul rest in peace.
