The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Cross River State chapter, has set a target of securing at least 2.5 million registered voters ahead of the 2027 General Elections, intensifying grassroots mobilisation and stakeholder engagement across the state.
The council announced the target during a press briefing in Calabar on Saturday, where it called on eligible residents to take advantage of the remaining days of the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Speaking to journalists, the State Chairman of IPAC, Engr. Effiom Edet Okon, said the state's political relevance and influence at the national level depend largely on active citizen participation in the electoral process.
Operating under the campaign slogan, "No Voter's Card, No Voice; No Registration, No Participation," Okon stressed that increasing the number of registered voters would strengthen Cross River's democratic mandate and enhance its political standing in the country.
He noted that a larger voter population would translate into greater national recognition, stronger political representation and a more influential voice in shaping Nigeria's future.
According to him, IPAC has been working with INEC, civil society organisations, traditional rulers, religious institutions, market associations and other stakeholders across the state's 18 local government areas to ensure broad participation in the voter registration exercise.
The council also commended Governor Bassey Edet Otu for promoting political inclusiveness and dialogue among political parties.
Okon praised the governor for providing IPAC with an operational vehicle, a well furnished secretariat and maintaining an open door policy, describing the support as instrumental in improving the council's effectiveness.
He reaffirmed IPAC's commitment to collaborating with the state government in sustaining political stability, promoting peaceful coexistence and ensuring that democratic dividends reach the people.
As the Continuous Voter Registration exercise draws to a close, the council appealed to parents, youth leaders and community leaders to encourage eligible citizens to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards.
IPAC also expressed appreciation to INEC officials for their efforts in ensuring a smooth registration process while cautioning against political apathy.
Okon urged residents not to underestimate the value of their votes, describing every Permanent Voter Card as a powerful tool for strengthening democracy and encouraging active civic participation.
