Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has approved automatic employment for seven outstanding indigenes of the state who distinguished themselves during the 2025 National Youth Service Corps programme and were honoured by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with the Presidential Honours Award at the State House, Abuja.
The governor announced the reward while receiving the award recipients at his residence in Calabar over the weekend, describing their achievement as a reflection of the values of excellence, diligence and commitment for which Cross River people are known.
Congratulating the awardees, Governor Otu urged young people across the state to remain dedicated to service, hard work and integrity, noting that such qualities not only bring personal success but also enhance the image and reputation of Cross River on the national stage.
"I feel elated and proud of your distinguished service to humanity and the communities where you served. Your outstanding performance earned you national recognition and culminated in the prestigious Presidential Honours Award presented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. You have made Cross River proud," the governor said.
He commended the recipients for demonstrating exceptional character throughout their service year, describing them as worthy ambassadors who had upheld the state's tradition of excellence.
According to him, their achievements affirm the true Cross River spirit, which is rooted in dedication, discipline and a commitment to excellence.
Governor Otu assured the young achievers of his administration's continued support, expressing confidence that the future of the state remains bright with young people of their calibre.
"With young people like you, I believe the future of our state is guaranteed. My administration will continue to support you in whatever legitimate path you choose to pursue," he stated.
The governor also announced that beneficiaries who choose not to join the state civil service would be supported through entrepreneurship training, skills acquisition programmes or take off grants to establish businesses of their choice. He said the initiative underscores his administration's commitment to youth empowerment and sustainable economic development.
The beneficiaries are Christopher Utsu of the University of Cross River State, Favour Asuquo of the University of Cross River State, Ndem Ndem of the University of Calabar, Freedom Udama of the University of Cross River State, Miracle Bisong of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Agom Johnson of the University of Cross River State and Clement Ekunke of the University of Cross River State.
The governor's gesture is expected to encourage more young Cross Riverians to pursue excellence during their national service and contribute meaningfully to national development while bringing honour to the state.
