The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leadership has commended the peaceful conduct, organisation and massive participation recorded during the Cross River State governorship primaries, describing the exercise as credible and reflective of strong grassroots support for the party.
The commendation came as a National APC delegation, led by the Deputy National Treasurer, Engr. Ben Akak, toured the 18 local government areas of the state to monitor and assess the conduct of the primaries.
Speaking during the exercise, Akak said the delegation was impressed by the orderly process and the level of participation witnessed across various wards and local governments visited.
“We were sent by the National Secretariat of our party to witness the peaceful conduct of the exercise. So far, we are impressed,” he stated.
According to him, the observations from the monitoring exercise affirmed the credibility of the primaries and demonstrated the commitment of party members to internal democracy and unity.
The APC National officer noted that the atmosphere during the exercise remained calm and organised, adding that such conduct gives confidence ahead of future electoral processes.
“And the voting is peaceful, it’s calm, it’s orderly. That shows that at the general election, Nigeria will witness an extraordinary election,” Akak said while addressing party faithful in Calabar Municipality.
The National delegation also praised the administration of Governor Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, attributing the large turnout and enthusiasm among party members to confidence in his leadership and governance style.
Akak disclosed that Governor Otu enjoys significant respect within the APC National Secretariat due to his contributions to the party’s growth and electoral successes.
“The governor’s performance has resonated at the National Headquarters. He is admired and respected for his role in strengthening the party,” he added.
Also speaking during the monitoring exercise, the APC Zonal Organising Secretary said the tour across the state had confirmed widespread support for Governor Otu and demonstrated confidence in the party’s leadership.
“We had a mandate to inspect and monitor the governorship primaries across the state, and what we have seen confirms that the process has been peaceful and credible,” the official said.
The delegation visited local governments including Calabar South, Calabar Municipality and Akamkpa, where party supporters turned out in large numbers to participate in the exercise and reaffirm support for the APC.
Reacting to the outcome of the primaries at his ward in Adiabo, Governor Otu expressed appreciation to party members for the support and pledged to intensify efforts toward delivering more development across the state.
“The support we have received calls for greater service to humanity. What we have done so far is lay solid foundations and we will continue to build on them,” the governor said.
The APC National delegation concluded the exercise by urging party members to remain united, sustain mobilisation efforts and continue supporting the party ahead of future elections.
The monitoring tour formed part of the APC National Secretariat’s oversight responsibility to ensure transparency, credibility and adherence to party guidelines during the governorship primaries across Cross River State.
