The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat has commended the Cross River chapter of the party for conducting a peaceful and orderly governorship primary election across the state, while charging stakeholders to aggressively mobilize voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ruling party gave the commendation on Thursday, May 21, 2026, during a monitoring and assessment tour of the exercise across the state.
Speaking during the monitoring exercise in Calabar South, Calabar Municipality, Odukpani and Akamkpa, the Deputy National Treasurer of the APC, Engr. Ben Akak, noted that Cross River occupies a unique and special place in the heart of the party's national leadership due to the stellar performance of Governor Bassey Edet Otu.
"The message from the National Headquarters is clear: Cross River State is special, and that’s why this delegation was sent. The Chairman specifically mentioned that because the Governor has done too much for the party. He’s delivered almost all the processes the party has sent him. In fact, he was the first Governor who was able to get other Governors in the zone to join the party. So for us at the National Secretariat, we’re impressed with Cross River," Akak stated.
Expressing immense satisfaction with the massive turnout and affirmation of Otu's candidacy across the local governments visited, the APC national officer highlighted the Governor's developmental strides across various sectors, including infrastructure, entrepreneurship, pension reforms, and gender inclusion.
"You can see he has performed tremendously... In his cabinet, the women are captured, and it’s in his representation. Even the candidates that have emerged, you see the women are there. So he is a Governor who is sensitive to affirmative action," the Deputy National Treasurer added, reassuring Cross Riverians that a second term under Governor Otu would mean freedom and prosperity for the people.
Stressing the importance of the 2027 general elections, Engr. Akak urged the state to double its previous voting numbers to attract greater federal presence.
"Politics is all about what you can give. It is what you can give that will enable you to ask for more. And Cross River must give more to ask for more," he urged. "The vote that came out last time, we want it doubled so that Mr. President will pick a special interest in this state and more development will come."
He further maintained that the peaceful process has shown that the Governor has already won the hearts of his people. "The way the Governor of Cross River State is described at the National Secretariat is unique. They see him as a man who can deliver the undeliverable... We are confident from the exercise I’ve seen that the Governor has already won his second term."
Also speaking during the monitoring exercise, the South South Zonal Organizing Secretary, Prince Edward Ajang, confirmed that the massive compliance witnessed during the monitored locations reflects the people's love for Governor Otu.
Ajang noted that Cross River remains the flagship of the APC in the South-South region and appealed to party stakeholders to maintain absolute unity and loyalty to the party's decisions.
"Today, if it is not your turn, don't feel that it has come and gone... Work with your brother. The party has decided that we should support to deliver our party. Do it. Tomorrow, it will be your turn," Ajang advised.
He however charged party faithful to replicate and increase the current momentum during the upcoming presidential primary to demonstrate that the state is fully locked down for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 polls.
The delegation also monitored the primary election in Governor Otu's own ward in Adiabo, where party members overwhelmingly affirmed him as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
