Statement by Rt. Hon Davies Etta, Member Representing Abi State Constituency, Cross River State House of Assembly, on the 2025 International Day of Peace
Today, as the world marks the International Day of Peace, I stand with the good people of Abi Local Government Area to reflect on our shared journey and our collective responsibility to build lasting peace in our communities.
For us in Abi, this day is not abstract. It speaks directly to our lived realities. The painful conflicts involving Ebom and Ebijakara, Ediba and Usumutong, Adadama, Ekureku and all other communities in Abi who have tasted the bitter pills of communal crisis, have left scars on families, destroyed livelihoods, and slowed the development we all desire. These conflicts remind us that no community truly wins in war, everyone loses.
As your representative in the Cross River State House of Assembly, I reaffirm my commitment to promoting dialogue, supporting reconciliation processes, and working with government, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and civil society to address the root causes of these conflicts. I believe that with sincerity, fairness, and collective effort, peace can return fully to Abi.
Let this International Day of Peace be a turning point. Let us lay down the weapons of violence and pick up the tools of dialogue, tolerance, and cooperation. Let us see each other not as rivals, but as brothers and sisters bound by a common destiny.
Peace is the foundation for education, commerce, agriculture, and every form of progress. Without peace, our dreams for Abi will remain unfulfilled. With peace, there is nothing we cannot achieve together.
I therefore call on all our communities to embrace dialogue and reconciliation, and I assure you of my continuous efforts in the Assembly to support policies and interventions that promote peace and development across Abi and our beloved Cross River State.
May peace reign in Abi, and may peace reign in Nigeria.
