Press Statement by the Vice Chairman/CEO, Cross River State Planning Commission, on the 2025 International Day of Peace

 

On this day, September 21, the global community pauses to mark the International Day of Peace, a reminder that peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice, equity, and opportunities for all.

For us in Cross River State, this day carries deep meaning. Our history, diversity, and aspirations can only thrive when peace is nurtured in our homes, communities, and institutions. As we confront communal tensions, political differences, and socio-economic challenges, we are reminded that sustainable development is impossible without peace, just as peace cannot endure without inclusive development.

At the Cross River State Planning Commission, we see peace as central to planning and progress. Every plan, every budget, and every development framework must integrate conflict sensitivity, justice, and social cohesion. It is only in an atmosphere of peace that our children can learn without fear, our farmers can cultivate without threat, our businesses can flourish, and our people can live with dignity.

I therefore call on all Cross Riverians — traditional rulers, community leaders, women, youths, faith actors, civil society, and government institutions , to renew their commitment to dialogue, tolerance, and reconciliation. Let us reject violence, embrace inclusiveness, and build partnerships that place people first, in line with the vision of our dear Governor, His Excellency, Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu.

As we join the world to observe this International Day of Peace, may we remember that peace begins with each of us. When we choose cooperation over confrontation, empathy over enmity, and service over selfishness, we build the Cross River of our dreams.
