Abuja, Nigeria. Hon. Adut Salva Kiir Mayardit has been named Focus Africa’s Woman Champion 2026 for Community Impact in South Sudan as part of activities marking the organization’s 10th year anniversary.
The recognition celebrates a decade of work by Focus Africa and honours individuals whose service has created visible change across the continent. For South Sudan, the award spotlights a leader whose efforts have been measured less by title and more by direct support to vulnerable communities.
As the eldest daughter of President Salva Kiir Mayardit and First Lady Mary Ayen Mayardit, Hon. Adut has combined her public profile with grassroots action. In 2022 she founded the Adut Salva Kiir Foundation, ASK, to channel resources into education, healthcare, clean water and support for those most in need. The foundation’s work quickly earned attention far beyond Juba.
In August 2025 she was appointed Senior Presidential Envoy on Special Programs, a role that expanded her capacity to turn humanitarian goals into coordinated action. From that office she has overseen scholarship programmes for orphans, children of liberation veterans and students from disadvantaged families. In early 2026 she announced support for about 200 learners. Later phases have included dozens of students from Western Equatoria, Jonglei and other states selected for full secondary school support at institutions such as Cornerstone Vision Academy. For many of the beneficiaries, the scholarships represent a new chance at education and a pathway to the future.
Her humanitarian outreach has also reached hospitals, orphanages and displaced communities. Teams from her office have delivered food, clothing, mattresses and medical supplies to health facilities and children’s homes in Juba and other areas. In Rumbek, she supported the restoration of services at the Kiir Mayardit Women and Children Hospital by providing fuel, oxygen, power and food supplies for staff so mothers and newborns could receive better care. In Renk County and other returnee settlements, she facilitated the distribution of clothes, shoes and sanitary items to families rebuilding their lives. On International Women’s Day, she visited wards at Al Sabah Children’s Hospital and Geida Hospital, where she interacted with caregivers and delivered support items.
Beyond immediate relief, Hon. Adut has invested in infrastructure and youth engagement. Boreholes have been drilled to provide clean water to communities and institutions. She has also sponsored sporting tournaments that connect South Sudanese youth in the diaspora to their roots and promote a sense of identity and pride. In regional engagements, she has brought African partners together around dialogue, electoral preparedness and cooperation, with a focus on outcomes that benefit ordinary citizens.
Focus Africa said the award was given in recognition of impact delivered in classrooms, hospitals and communities rather than in headlines. In a country still recovering from conflict and strengthening its institutions, her approach has centered on consistency and service. Children remain in school through scholarships. Hospitals keep essential services running. Food and supplies reach those who need them most. And public engagement continues to insist that the most vulnerable are not left behind.
As Woman Champion 2026 for Community Impact, Hon. Adut Salva Kiir Mayardit represents a model of leadership that pairs privilege with purpose. Her work offers encouragement to a new generation of South Sudanese, especially young girls, that service matters, education is a right worth protecting, and community impact remains the most important measure of influence.
