The Executive Chairman of Yakurr Local Government Area, Hon. Yibala Inyang, has hosted the APC candidate for Cross River Central Senatorial District, Hon. Oden Ewa, at a stakeholders’ meeting in his hometown, where party members called for unity, reconciliation and stronger grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting attracted APC leaders, stakeholders and supporters from various wards, providing an opportunity for members to deliberate on challenges within the party following the conclusion of the senatorial primaries and to discuss strategies for strengthening the party ahead of the general elections.
A major concern raised at the gathering was the need for members to put behind them the disagreements and divisions that characterised the primaries. Speakers stressed that the success of the APC in 2027 would depend on the ability of its members to work together rather than operate through individual camps.
They argued that no individual, regardless of political influence, could single handedly deliver a polling unit, ward or local government, emphasising the importance of collective mobilisation and grassroots participation.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Oden Ewa urged party members to shift their attention from the concluded primaries to the task of securing victory at the general elections. He maintained that the APC must approach the 2027 elections as one family and ensure that every member contributes to the party’s success.
According to him, the strength of the party and the political influence of Cross River State would depend largely on the votes it is able to mobilise across the senatorial district and the state.
Ewa stressed the importance of polling unit level mobilisation, saying party members must identify eligible voters, engage them and encourage them to participate fully in the electoral process. He noted that every polling unit and every vote would be crucial to the party’s prospects in 2027.
On concerns about possible anti party activities, the APC candidate advocated reconciliation rather than immediate condemnation of aggrieved members. He urged party leaders to engage dissatisfied members through the polling unit, ward and chapter structures, understand their grievances and work towards bringing them back into the fold.
He said the objective should be to build a united team capable of winning the election rather than creating new divisions within the party.
Ewa also assured stakeholders of his commitment to uniting the various tendencies within the APC and building an inclusive campaign structure that would accommodate members regardless of whom they supported during the primaries.
He called on his supporters to embrace the same spirit of inclusiveness, stressing that the general election was a larger assignment that required the participation of all party members.
The senatorial candidate further maintained that electoral performance would determine the political strength and bargaining power of the state, noting that Cross River could only secure greater influence by producing substantial votes at the polls.
He therefore promised a broad based and grassroots driven campaign across Cross River Central, with emphasis on reaching communities and polling units across the senatorial district.
The meeting ended with a renewed call for APC members in Yakurr and Cross River Central to reconcile their differences, rebuild trust and strengthen the party’s structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
The stakeholders agreed that the coming election should be treated as a collective project rather than a continuation of the divisions arising from the primaries, with the ultimate focus being on unity, mobilisation and victory at the polls.
