Concerned Progressives and Peace Loving Stakeholders of Akamkpa Local Government Area have defended Governor Bassey Otu against what they described as a misleading and politically motivated open letter targeted at his administration.
In a statement signed by Itasan Ntui, the group said the publication against the governor was filled with bitterness, frustration and deliberate distortion of facts aimed at inciting public resentment and undermining constituted authority.
The stakeholders maintained that Governor Otu remained a listening leader who had consistently demonstrated fairness, patience and commitment to peace and democratic inclusion in the state.
According to the statement, all parties involved in the dispute were given equal opportunities for dialogue and reconciliation but some individuals allegedly chose confrontation and propaganda after failing to influence the process in their favour.
The group also defended the consensus arrangement adopted in Akamkpa, stressing that political leadership thrives on consultation, party structures and collective agreements rather than emotional blackmail and media intimidation.
They warned that calls for open primaries after a consensus decision had already been reached could reopen political tensions and violence previously experienced in the area.
The stakeholders further accused some political actors and their media supporters of fueling division and heating the polity despite being beneficiaries of the present administration.
They urged aggrieved individuals to embrace humility, political maturity and respect for elders and constituted authority, insisting that Akamkpa belongs to peaceful and responsible leaders committed to unity, progress and development.
The statement reaffirmed support for Governor Otu’s People First agenda and called on residents to reject divisive propaganda capable of threatening the peace and stability of the local government area.
