An Associate Professor, Virginia Emmanuel Ironbar, has urged stakeholders to embrace a structured digital approach as a key driver for sustainable rural and community development across Nigeria.

Ironbar made the appeal during the public unveiling of her books, Digital Framework for Rural and Community Development: Principles, Theories and Practice and Community Psychology and Pedagogical Innovations in Teaching and Learning.
The event, held on Friday at the State Library, attracted academics, government representatives, and development practitioners, serving as a forum to examine how technology, education, and grassroots initiatives can be effectively integrated.
In her address, the scholar emphasized the importance of aligning theoretical knowledge with the realities faced by communities, stressing that development initiatives must prioritize human experiences.
She noted that data and theories are only meaningful when they reflect real lives, explaining that her publications aim to bridge the disconnect between academic concepts and the everyday challenges of rural populations.
Ironbar stated that her motivation for writing stems from a desire to contribute ideas capable of shaping policy, enhancing education, and promoting sustainable practices, especially at the community level.
Describing herself as a continuous learner, she said her knowledge is constantly enriched through engagement with students and the communities she studies.
She also acknowledged the role of mentors and colleagues in academia, whose guidance and support, she said, were instrumental in her scholarly achievements.
In a heartfelt moment, she appreciated her husband for his consistent encouragement, noting that her writing often extends into late hours.
Also speaking at the event, the Chief of Staff to the Cross River State Governor, Emmanuel Ironbar, praised the author for her intellectual contributions and commitment to advancing knowledge.
He observed that her work aligns with the state government’s agenda of fostering development through innovation, education, and inclusive governance.
Ironbar further called on researchers and stakeholders to adopt evidence-based strategies in tackling development challenges, particularly in rural areas.
Goodwill messages from distinguished academics and dignitaries highlighted the relevance of the books, describing them as valuable resources for policy development, academic inquiry, and practical solutions aimed at improving rural livelihoods in Nigeria.
