Dr. Obah Edom Tawo, the African Democratic Congress candidate for the House of Representatives, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving healthcare delivery across the Etung/Obubra Federal Constituency, describing access to quality medical services as a fundamental right of every citizen. In a recent interview, he outlined healthcare as a central pillar of his legislative agenda and constituency development plan.
In an interview with Journalist, Dr. Obah expressed concern over the current state of medical access in many communities within the constituency, noting that residents are often forced to travel long distances under difficult conditions to receive basic care. According to him, this situation has led to avoidable health complications and unnecessary suffering among the people.
To address these challenges, Tawo emphasized the urgency of implementing targeted medical outreach programmes aimed at underserved and remote communities. He disclosed that he has already begun initiating such efforts, with a focus on reaching women, children, and other vulnerable groups who are most affected by limited access to healthcare services.
He explained that these outreach initiatives are designed to provide immediate relief through services such as family planning education, maternal healthcare support, and general medical consultations. While describing them as short term interventions, he noted that they form part of a broader strategy to stabilize healthcare delivery as longer term infrastructure improvements are pursued.
Tawo also highlighted the importance of strengthening existing health facilities within the constituency. He stressed that improving the capacity of local clinics and health centres is essential to ensuring consistent and reliable access to care, adding that healthcare must not only be available but also affordable for all.
Linking health to development, he stated that a healthier population is better equipped to contribute meaningfully to economic growth and social stability.
