A total of 575 new students of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital UCTH Calabar Medical Schools, Wednesday took oath of matriculation, signaling their official admission into the 2023/2024, 2024/2025 and 2025/202 academic sessions of the schools.

Out of this number, 352 matriculated in the maiden edition of the College of Nursing Sciences while 233 others were officially admitted into the School of Health Information Management.
A further breakdown shows that in the School of Health Information Management, a total of 32 students were admitted to pursue the National Diploma ND programme and 64 others were admitted into the Higher National Diploma programme in the 2024/2025 academic session while 51 students were admitted into the ND and 86 others i to the HND programme in the 2025/2026 academic session.
In his address, the Chief Medical Director of UCTH, Prof Ikpeme Ikpeme who congratulated the new students for their admission urged them not their matriculation as an achievement but a step toward a greater future.
The Chief Medical Director, represented by the chairman, Medical Advisory Committe of the hospital,Dr Innocent Abang urged the new students to uphold discipline and professionalism as they begin their academic journey in the institutions.
He further charged them to be patient, persevere in their studies, pursue their academics with purpose and be driven by the zeal to succeed.
In their goodwill messages, the Director of Administration, Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee among others who spoke, charged the newly matriculated students to embrace hard work and avoid shortcuts and temptations as true academic success must be earned through excellence.
The Provost of the School of Health Information Management, Mrs Janet Ndarake advised the students to inculcate hard work and take their studies seriously.
“No one can work harder for your future than you. In your classrooms and laboratories,, you must be ready to put in the effort and dedication required for success.
“I also strongly advise you to avoid negative behaviours such as examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, misuse of social media, and any form of violence.
“This College will not tolerate any act that threatens peace and discipline on campus. Any student found guilty of such misconduct will face serious disciplinary action, including possible expulsion and prosecution,” she warned.
“Your lecturers and mentors will guide you, but your commitment to hard work will determine your achievements..
“Morality is equally important. As you pursue your studies, always uphold the values of honesty, integrity, and respect,” she added.
Some of the matriculating students who spoke in seperate interviews shortly after the matriculation ceremony thanked the hospital management for giving them the opportunity to study in the colleges and promised to abide by the rules and regulations of the schools.
