The Akamkpa Local Government Council Hall came alive as the Council Chaplaincy, in partnership with the Christian Association of Nigeria Akamkpa Chapter, hosted the 2025 Solemn Assembly. The gathering brought together worshippers, clergy, political leaders and 22 choirs whose episodic renditions filled the hall with adoration, each piece drawing attention to God’s salvific work and the long-held hope of the expected Messiah.
The festival of Carols and Nine Lessons was opened by the Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Council, Hon. Felix Akposi KSJI. He took the first reading, underscoring the uniqueness of humanity in the divine order, before lighting the first candle and leading worshippers to the manger. His participation, symbolic and pastoral in effect, set the tone for an assembly that blended civic leadership with deep spiritual reflection.
In his message, Akposi urged the people to uphold their leaders in prayer, noting that the weight of public responsibility requires divine guidance. He stressed that genuine development is tied to moral and spiritual clarity. He added that he was delighted to have his brother present at the event, stating that Akamkpa needs more moments of unity to achieve meaningful progress. The Chairman reflected on the season’s message, describing it as deep and instructive, and called for what he termed political repentance, encouraging citizens to support leaders who genuinely place the people’s welfare first.
The homily for the day was delivered by Apostle Dr. Trinity Ogar, whose sermon dwelt on the messianic needs of humankind and the call to restore a fractured relationship with God. His message stirred a contemplative atmosphere, reminding worshippers that the season transcends celebration and points toward divine renewal. The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Pius Edet Ankpo, also addressed the congregation, speaking on the need for unity in Akamkpa and urging residents to strengthen communal bonds.
A highlight of the event was the moment of thanksgiving led by the Head of Local Government Administration, Dr. Obal Esang. She explained that the season invites sober reflection and gratitude, preparing hearts to receive the Saviour of the world. On behalf of the Council staff, she presented a generating plant for the use of the Council, describing it as an act of appreciation for God’s goodness and a contribution to the smooth functioning of the Secretariat.
The CAN Coordinator for Akamkpa, Bishop Aquah, commended the Chairman’s leadership and described him as a man who loves God. He expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for his consistent support and passion for the growth of the area. He extended appreciation to all who attended and offered prayers for protection and joy throughout the Yuletide season.
The assembly concluded with a brief photo session, capturing a moment that blended faith, governance and communal harmony in a way that highlighted Akamkpa’s shared spiritual life and its aspirations for the year ahead.
