The organisers of this year’s Leboku Festival have expressed deep concern over the unfortunate incident involving Mr. Iwara U. Iwara during the festivities.
In a statement, the convener noted that his heart goes out to Mr. Iwara in this challenging time, while wishing him a swift and full recovery.
He explained that the invitation of the Free Wheelers Bikers Association to participate in the festival was intended to add colour and vibrancy to the cultural celebration, stressing that while unforeseen incidents sometimes occur, the focus now should be on solidarity rather than division.
“I urge everyone in our community not to politicize this situation. Using this moment to create divisions does not serve us well. Our priority should be supporting Mr. Iwara and ensuring he receives the care and attention he needs,” the statement read.
Demonstrating accountability, the convener disclosed that he personally visited Mr. Iwara in the company of the biker involved in the incident, where apologies were tendered and concern expressed.
In a further show of solidarity, Hon. Cyril Omini, the Member representing Yakurr I Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, has taken responsibility for Mr. Iwara’s medical treatment, assuring that all necessary support will be provided until his full recovery.
The convener further called on the people of Yakurr and beyond to uphold compassion, unity, and mutual respect, especially in moments of adversity.
“Let’s come together to uplift Mr. Iwara and respect his recovery process while promoting a spirit of unity instead of division. Our community deserves that,” he appealed.
The statement concluded with prayers for Mr. Iwara’s strength and healing, urging all to continue celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Leboku Festival in safety and
responsibility.
