University of Calabar SUG Honours Sen. Hans Abang Akan, Protocol Officer of the university of Calabar at Leadership Awards Ceremony

The Student Union Government (SUG) of the University of Calabar hosted its prestigious Awards and Investiture of Patrons event on June 20, 2025, under the theme “Leadership That Inspires: Celebrating Trailblazers’ Impact.”


A major highlight of the occasion was the conferment of an honorary award to Sen. Hans Abang Akan, Protocol Office of the university of Calabar as Commander of the Order of Malabor (COM) in recognition of his unwavering support and immense contributions to the growth and development of student leadership and welfare.


Senator Hans Abang, a distinguished advocate for youth empowerment and education, has played a pivotal role in advancing the Student Union Government’s initiatives. With this latest accolade, the Senator has now received a remarkable total of 50 awards over the last four years—an inspiring testament to his consistent dedication to student development.

And currently, he is the distinguished Senate President of the 12th Senate of Post graduate Students Government University of Calabar.


The event was attended by The Vice Chancellor, her DVC's, university Bursar, both internal and external Council members, Provost of graduate School, Dean of students affairs, Commissioner of finance Dr Mike Odere, Dr Regina Ironbar wife of the chief of staff to Crs government and a host of others


The event, attended by students, faculty, dignitaries, and stakeholders, served as a platform to celebrate impactful leadership and recognize individuals who have significantly influenced student life and governance The event was well attended .


The SUG President commended Sen. Abang John for his trailblazing legacy and reaffirmed the union's commitment to promoting excellence in leadership and service. The ceremony ended on a high note, with calls for more partnerships in youth development.
