NYCN Cross River commends peaceful local government elections, praising transparency and urging new coordinators to drive youth development effectively.
The Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Cross River State chapter, Comrade Emmanuel Olayi, has lauded the successful conduct of the recent local government elections in the state. The elections, which culminated in the inauguration of youth coordinators across the 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Cross River State, were held in a peaceful and transparent manner.
The inauguration ceremony took place on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Apostle Senator Bassey Edet Otu Youth House in Calabar, and was attended by prominent stakeholders, including the Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. Ijom Ukam, and NYCN state executives.
In a press statement, Olayi described the electoral process as "free, fair, and transparent," with a success rate of over 90%. He commended the absence of violence and crisis during the elections, citing the example of Obudu, where the election was conducted openly and monitored live from the situation room in Calabar.
Olayi emphasized his neutrality throughout the election process, stating that he made no compromises and was not influenced by any political leader or interest group. He urged the newly inaugurated coordinators to work closely with LGA authorities to drive youth development and create opportunities for young people.
The NYCN chairman also highlighted the challenge of ensuring that candidates met the age requirements during the elections. However, he expressed optimism that the next elections would be even better, following the lessons learned from this exercise.
With the successful conclusion of the elections, the NYCN Cross River chapter looks forward to collaborating with the newly inaugurated coordinators to promote youth development and empowerment in the state.
