The Chairman of the Ben Akak Foundation, Engr. Ben Akak, commiserates with the management of SPAR Mall, business owners, traders, workers and all those affected by the devastating fire outbreak at the Calabar Mall on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
The inferno, which started in the early hours of the morning, destroyed several shops, goods and valuable property, with businesses including a pharmacy, electronics outlet, clothing store, perfumery and phone shop reportedly affected.
Engr. Akak, himself a business owner, understands firsthand what it takes to build a business, sustain livelihoods and protect valuable investments, and therefore deeply empathises with those who have lost their businesses, properties and means of livelihood in the unfortunate incident. He also extends his heartfelt solidarity to the Government and good people of Cross River State, particularly those whose livelihoods and investments have been adversely affected by the incident.
He further solicits continued support for the affected businesses and individuals, while expressing hope that the victims will find the strength and resources to rebuild and recover from this unfortunate setback.
