Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has inaugurated Elders Advisory Council comprising of influential leaders, stakeholders, former officials, and respected figures in the sate who will provide guidance, consultation, and a voice for the state's interests, engaging with government on critical issues like security, development, and governance to ensure progress and unity.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Thursday in Calabar, Governor Otu represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, praised Otu's led administration, describing it as a people-centered government that believes in the potential of the State.
He said, "The administration of Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu is a people administration, an administration that believes in the people of Cross River State. There is no chance, no chance that this administration is going to fail."
Odey emphasized the importance of the newly inaugurated advisory committee, stating that governments with quality advisors like these cannot fail. He highlighted administration's achievements, stressing that they are determined to reclaim all assets of Cross River State, including oil wells.
"This is a very important advisory committee. Governments that have this quality of advisors cannot fail, and will not fail. With the quality of advisers that I have seen here today, and that of the elder council that will be inaugurated, there is no chance that this administration is going to fail", Odey emphasized.
Odey warned those opposing the governor's efforts, advising them to focus on farming instead, saying, "It will profit you more if you use the money to plant cassava, It is actually going to benefit you much more than trying to challenge His Excellency the Governor of Cross River State."
He expressed gratitude to the former Governor of Cross River State, Dr. Clement Ebri, for his endorsement, saying, "He is a leader who is not afraid to speak the truth when it is time to speak the truth."
Odey assured that the administration values the advice of the advisory committee, saying, "The advice of the elders from across Cross River State will not be taken for granted for one minute."
In his remarks, Chief Clement Ebri, newly inaugurated Chairman of the Elders Advisory Council, and former governor of the state, expressed his commitment to supporting Governor Otu's administration, emphasizing the importance of the council's role in guiding the government.
He commended Governor Bassey Otu for being open to advice, saying, "I was very pleased when the deputy governor said they will not take our advice for granted." Ebri assured that the council will make a difference, stating, "I can assure you that we are going to do it right this time around."
Ebri highlighted the caliber of the council members, saying, "We have people here who are not just material for the state, for the nation, and even internationally." He emphasized that they will not be ignored, and the government will benefit from their expertise.
