The Cross River State Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled the former State Chairman of the party, Mr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba, Esq., JP, from the party.
The decision was reached at the inaugural council meeting of the State Caretaker Committee held on Monday, 22nd December 2025, at the party’s secretariat in Calabar. The meeting was presided over by the Acting Chairman of the Committee, Ntufam Ekum Ekok Ojogu.
According to the Committee, the expulsion followed the invocation of Article 21.5(v) of the APC Constitution (as amended on 26 March 2022), which provides that any party member who institutes legal action against the party or its officers on matters relating to party affairs, without first exhausting internal dispute-resolution mechanisms, automatically stands expelled upon filing such action.
A motion to invoke the constitutional provision was moved by the Vice Chairman of the party representing the Central Senatorial District, Dr. Abubakar Efoli, and seconded by the Youth Leader (North), Dr. Joseph Idagu Ogar. The Committee consequently affirmed the expulsion of Mr. Eba, noting that no appeal can be entertained until the legal action against the party is withdrawn from court.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Dr. Abubakar Efoli stated that Mr. Eba’s actions amounted to a clear violation of the party constitution, stressing that discipline and respect for internal democratic processes remain sacrosanct within the APC.
In a related development, the Committee also upheld the suspension of the State Special Leader, Dr. Juliet Ebuo Diwa, following a formal complaint from the Boki Local Government Area Chapter Chairman, Chief Engr. Kelvin Njong, JP.
Dr. Diwa was accused of gross misconduct at the ward level, including an alleged assault on the Ward Chairman, Mr. James Abang, which reportedly resulted in physical harm. After reviewing the matter, the State Caretaker Committee resolved to sustain her suspension pending the outcome and recommendations of the party’s Disciplinary Committee.
The Caretaker Committee reaffirmed its commitment to party discipline, internal democracy, and strict adherence to the provisions of the APC Constitution.
