Tinubu wife commissions N1bn ICT centre at Cross River varsity

The First Lady of Nigeria Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned a N1bn Information and Communication Technology Experience Centre at the University of Cross River State, Calabar.

The facility, established through the Renewed Hope Initiative in partnership with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, is equipped with digital resources, including laptops and desktop computers, to provide students with greater access to technology and digital learning.

Speaking during the commissioning of the centre on Friday, Tinubu said the facility was designed to give students the opportunity to learn, create and develop digital skills without being limited by lack of personal devices or unstable electricity.

She said, “The new centre is expected to give students uninterrupted opportunities to learn, create and build digital skills without the barriers of device ownership and unstable electricity.”

Tinubu urged the students to take advantage of the facility and embrace technology, stressing that the future of education, employment and economic development would increasingly depend on digital skills.

The First Lady said the project was part of a broader nationwide initiative aimed at expanding access to technology and preparing Nigerian youths for a technology-driven future.

Tinubu expressed optimism about the initiative, saying the centres were intended to expose students to the realities of the future.

“We are yet to commission all. We will commission but we are building so our students will know that this is what the future holds for them,” she said.
