A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State has declared that the Tanimu Turaki (SAN) led National Working Committee remains the authentic leadership of the party, insisting that only candidates produced under its leadership are legally recognized for the 2027 general elections.

Addressing journalists on Friday, the faction's governorship candidate, Julius Udayi, said he was accompanied by the party's senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates who emerged through what he described as the duly recognized process of the party.
Udayi said the briefing became necessary following what he termed attempts by certain individuals to mislead the public by presenting themselves as PDP candidates under a different platform.
According to him, the position of his faction is based on the judgments of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, which he said affirmed the authenticity of the Tanimu Turaki led leadership of the PDP.
He maintained that all candidates aligned with that leadership were the duly nominated flag bearers of the party in Cross River State for the 2027 general elections.
The governorship candidate alleged that some individuals were falsely parading themselves as PDP candidates, stressing that they neither represent the authentic leadership nor the recognized structure of the party.
He called on party members, supporters, stakeholders, security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the general public to disregard what he described as misleading claims capable of creating confusion among voters.
Udayi reaffirmed the faction's commitment to democratic principles, credible leadership and the development of Cross River State, while urging residents to continue supporting the Tanimu Turaki led PDP.
He expressed confidence that the party would remain focused on promoting peace, progress and prosperity in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
