The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has re-elected Effiom Edet Okon as Chairman of its Cross River State chapter for a second term following the council’s state election conducted under the supervision of the national leadership and in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Okon secured 13 votes in the exercise, which was part of the council’s statutory process aimed at strengthening inter-party collaboration and democratic governance in the state.
Speaking after the election, the National Chairman of IPAC, Alhaji Dr Yusuf Maman Dantalle, congratulated the newly elected chairman and urged him to be magnanimous in victory by reaching out to other contestants to promote unity within the council. He emphasized that IPAC is a family and not an opposition platform, advising the leadership to remain tolerant and inclusive while working with all political parties, especially as the state approaches future electoral activities.
In his acceptance speech, Okon thanked members of the council and political party representatives in the state for the confidence reposed in him, promising to deepen democracy and sustain inclusive engagement among political parties. He also expressed appreciation to the Cross River State Government, particularly Governor Senator Bassey Edet Otu and the Chief of Staff, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, for supporting cooperation between the government and IPAC in advancing good governance in the state.
Other members elected into the executive of the council include Dr Mrs Phoebe Inyang as Vice Chairman, Asim Effiong Bassey as Deputy Secretary, Ojisi Michael Ntue as Treasurer, Apostle Edet Effiom Ebiefie as Organizing Secretary, Patrick Osam Agbor as Financial Secretary, James Okon Otudor as Publicity Secretary, and Barr. Anthony Ogbonike Odey as Legal Adviser. The newly elected leadership is expected to strengthen collaboration among political parties while promoting democratic values across Cross River State.
