Former Cross River Governor Imoke dumps PDP ahead 2027 polls

 A former Governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party after nearly three decades of membership.

Imoke announced his resignation in a letter dated March 2, 2026, addressed to the party’s ward chairman in Itigidi Council Ward, Abi Local Government Area of the state.

The former governor, who is also a founding member of the PDP since 1998, on Friday said his decision was informed by the protracted crisis within the party, which he noted had made it difficult for him to continue to effectively serve the party and the people.

Imoke expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities it gave him to serve the country and the state in various capacities.

During his political career, he served as Presidential Special Adviser, Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and later as governor of Cross River State between 2007 and 2015.

He thanked party members and supporters for their support throughout his years in the PDP and wished the party well in its future endeavours.
