A 29-year-old student, Donatus Ndubuisi, was laid to rest amidst tears and anguish after being brutally killed by Fulani herdsmen in Enugu State. Ndubuisi, an only child of a widowed mother, was shot and killed while harvesting cassava with his mother. His father had also been killed by herdsmen in the community. The killing sparked a protest by thousands of women from seven autonomous communities, condemning the senseless violence and demanding justice.
A somber atmosphere pervaded the Enugu community of Eha-Amufu as the remains of 29-year-old Donatus Ndubuisi, a student of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), were laid to rest. Ndubuisi's life was brutally cut short by Fulani herdsmen on February 28, 2025, while he was assisting his mother on their farm.
The funeral ceremony, attended by family, friends, and community members, was marked by tears and anguish. Ndubuisi's mother, a widow, was overcome with grief, having lost her only child to the senseless violence.
According to eyewitnesses, Ndubuisi had traveled to his village, Amofia Umuhu Eha-Amufu, to visit his mother. Upon discovering that she had gone to their farm to harvest cassava, he decided to join her. Tragically, they were ambushed by Fulani herdsmen, who shot and killed Ndubuisi.
This incident is not an isolated one. The community has been plagued by violence perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen since 2021. The killing of Ndubuisi has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation, with thousands of women from seven autonomous communities taking to the streets to protest against the senseless violence.
The protest, which coincided with Ndubuisi's burial, was a call for justice and an end to the violence. The women, who marched through the streets, carried placards and banners, condemning the killing of Ndubuisi and other innocent community members.
In a statement, community leader Samuel Ede condemned the killing, stating that it was the height of the carnage that has been going on in Eha-Amufu. He called on the authorities to take decisive action to address the violence and ensure justice for the victims.

In a bizarre twist, the Council chairman of Isi-Uzu LGA, Mr. Obiora Obeagu, took to social media to claim that the protest was sponsored by opposition forces to malign the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah. He also denied that anyone was killed by Fulani herdsmen in the community, a claim that has been widely disputed by eyewitnesses and community leaders.
As the community mourns the loss of Ndubuisi, they are also demanding justice and an end to the violence. The killing of this young man has sparked outrage and condemnation, and it is imperative that the authorities take decisive action to address the crisis and ensure that justice is served.
