A former chieftain of the African Democratic Congress in Cross River State, Obah Edom Tawo, has formally resigned his membership of the party and defected to the National Democratic Coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Tawo announced his resignation in a letter dated May 4, 2026, and addressed to the Cross River State Chairman of the ADC through the Ward Chairman of Bendeghe Ekiem Ward in Etung Local Government Area.
In the letter, the former House of Representatives aspirant for Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency for the ADC, said he joined the ADC with conviction because of its promise of progressive and people-centred governance.
He wrote, “I joined ADC with conviction, drawn by its promise of progressive, people-centred governance and its capacity to serve as a credible alternative to the established parties that have long disappointed Nigerians.”
Tawo stated that his aspiration to represent the people of Obubra and Etung Federal Constituency remained focused on road infrastructure, quality healthcare, industrialisation, job creation and improved electricity supply for communities in the area.
According to him, “My aspiration to represent the people of Obubra and Etung Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives has never wavered. That mission anchored on road infrastructure, quality healthcare, industrialisation and job creation, and reliable electricity for our communities remains the central purpose of my political life.”
The politician, however, noted that his resignation from the ADC was without bitterness or ill feelings toward the party and its leadership.
“It is therefore with respect and without rancour that I hereby formally resign as a member of the African Democratic Congress effective from the date of this letter,” he stated.
Tawo further appreciated the party for providing him a political platform, saying he remained grateful to its leadership and members for their support during his stay in the party.
